Project Outcome

This courtyard was redesigned into a Tropical Zen Retreat. The goal was simple: bring together the calm of Zen minimalism with the lush character of tropical plants. A single feature tree, moss groundcover, and carefully arranged stones form the backbone of the space. Even though the garden is small, the layout uses layering and open space to make it feel larger and more serene.

Design Philosophy

The design follows a less-is-more approach. By focusing on key elements like tree, moss, stone, and keeping the rest minimal, the space feels balanced and peaceful. Tropical planting adds just enough vibrancy to keep the courtyard alive and inviting.

Key Design Elements

  • Feature Tree: Acts as the centrepiece of the courtyard.
  • Stone & Pebble Arrangement: Creates rhythm and structure without clutter.
  • Moss & Ivy: Softens edges and adds natural texture.
  • Minimalist Planter: Defines the geometry and supports the Zen concept.
  • Layered Planting: Adds subtle variety while keeping the calm mood.
  • Architectural Integration: Connects seamlessly with the home’s timber ceiling and surrounding greenery.
